MUSIC

The outstanding artist Alberto Jahsie is a songwriter, singer, guitarist, arranger and producer. He also plays percussion and bass.

In Brazil and Europe he has participated in many important musical shows, including open air concerts, festivals, radio and television shows.

He has also worked for video and the theatre and has organised cultural projects of international reputation.

Jahsie has performed with many Brazilian stars, such as Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Oludum and others.

He was born and raised in Salvador/Bahia, Brazil. (Salvador is the biggest 'African' city outside Africa, established during the brutal colonial period.)

Jahsie & his band THE VIBES BLOW play RootsPopMusic combining several music styles such as Reggae, Soul, Rock Steady, Funk and Pop with Afro-Brazilian flavours. Their powerful music struggles to establish love, respect and freedom among people.

The band is formed by excellent musicians from different continents. Instruments: Electric guitar, electric bass, drums, keyboards, synthesizer, percussion (e.g. Berimbau), solo voice and backing vocals.

In July 1996 Alberto Jahsie released his acclaimed debut album Dignité. It was recorded in Paris, Berlin and Brazil, with the musical collaboration of Rui Braga on keyboards, Lazaro Negrume (Gilberto Gil, Olodum) on electric bass, Jose Carlos (Carlinhos Brown) on drums, and other prominent musicians. Produced by himself and Heidrun Kippenberger.

Before settling in London, Alberto Jahsie lived in various European cities such as Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin.

MIND YOUR FIRE is the title of his current album that was recorded in Nov/Dec 99 in London with, amongst others, a performance by Victor Mensah (Osibisa) on keyboards & soundengineering and Pamela (John Lennon) on backing vocals.

In his AFRO-BRAZILIAN REGGAE, the fundamental is ROOT REGGAE; containing other musical elements such as ljexá, highlife, funk etc., which originally come from MAMA AFRICA.

The lyrics are composed in 'Pretoguês' (an afro-portuguese language, used in Bahia), in English and in his own language.

Alberto reflects spirituality and the fight against the terrible, lethal lethargy of the human race.
