Summer
Boat Party with BBQ
“ Yacht Club- Temple Pier
On July 24th, JungleDrums Magazine is back with another
amazing Brazilian event on the river Thames, and this
one features Brazil's three top DJs, who are touring
in Europe for the Make Poverty History campaign. Following
the success of last April’s celebrations, the
Sambatralia Summer Boat Party promises to be this summer’s
most memorable bash.
The
12-hour marathon will feature the best of traditional
and cutting-edge music, an authentic “churrasco”
(a barbecue, for those not in the know, and yes, it’s
all top quality Brazilian beef courtesy of Made in Brazil,
voted one of London’s 10 best bars by the Evening
Standard), copious amounts of the hardcore national
drink “caipirinha” and smooth Brazilian
beer. And of course, there’ll be shiny, happy
people galore. |

Festivities
kick off at lunchtime with the hot beats of Maracatu
Estrela do Norte- the live Brazilian percussion group
that wowed everybody last time around when they performed
with new sensation Seu Jorge. The party will stay rooted in
Afro-Brazilian traditions with a host of capoeira performances.
And a fantastic, trippy décor in three different rooms
is guaranteed by top Brazilian set designers Ateliê
do Gervásio, fresh off the big French concerts of music
icon Gilberto Gil.
The
boat may be moored in London, but the crowd is set to take
off to sunnier shores with Brazil’s three top DJs alternating
on the decks in the Make Poverty History Room. Lascivious
fun is assured with stars of the electronic underground scene,
DJs Each, Oscar Bueno, Magal and Renatto
Ratier who are taking part in the Make Poverty History tour.
The
Makoomba Room will feature newskooljazz, trip hop, electro,
afrobeats and Brazilian flavas from Raphael Pellizaro (Tummy
Touch, TheEnd/AKA), Chrispin Dior (Fresh, 333), Marc Miller
(Tummy Touch, 93 Feet East) and Jadey Smith (Reverberations),
amongst others.
And
there is more. The Brazilian-flavoured British label FarOut
Recordings will have its own Room: Robinson Crucial will play
Brazilian breaks, Dj Movida pumps out new and old electronic.
PaperCut (Outro Lado) and Scratch DJ mix up funk, party hip-hop,
latin, breaks and batucada. One thing's for sure: there'll
be some major booty-shaking.
This
is the sexiest party of the summer- don’t miss out!
